Digital transformation of healthcare: we connected a network of diagnostic centers to the P1 System
For an international network of imaging and oncology diagnostic centers, Pentacomp implemented advanced integration connectors (EDM Connector, EDM Generator Connector, Medical Events Connector, EDM Repository). The integration with the P1 System ensured full compliance with the Ministry of Health requirements regarding Electronic Medical Records (EDM).
Our client is a global medical network specializing in imaging diagnostics and oncology. It operates in 16 countries worldwide. In Poland, it manages 43 medical centers and 31 diagnostic laboratories, employing a team of 250 radiologists and performing over 350,000 examinations annually.
Challenge: mandatory integration with the P1 System under Ministry of Health regulations
As Poland’s healthcare sector undergoes digitalization, all medical facilities providing services under the National Health Fund (NFZ) are required to keep and share patient records in electronic form. This means connecting their systems with the central P1 System – a challenge that involves not only technical complexity but also strict compliance with integration and data exchange standards (e.g., HL7 CDA and HL7 FHIR).
For clinics, diagnostic centers, and hospitals, the key is to integrate in a way that minimizes future costs whenever regulations or documentation requirements change.
Background: what is Electronic Medical Documentation (EDM)?
Electronic Medical Documentation (EDM) consists of digital documents generated during a patient’s healthcare journey. These include prescriptions, referrals, test results, diagnostic descriptions, and physician notes on diagnosis, treatment, or prognosis. As sensitive data, EDM is legally protected under GDPR. Integration with the P1 System enables secure processing and sharing of these records across the healthcare system.
Solution: integration connectors ensuring compliance and security
Pentacomp deployed a set of proprietary integration tools – connectors acting as “bridges” between the client’s systems and the central P1 System:
- EDM Connector – manages data exchange with the P1 System and simplifies access to patient records.
- Medical Events Connector – ensures automatic reporting of all healthcare services to the P1 System.
- EDM Generator Connector – generates medical documents in standardized, ready-to-process formats.
- EDM Repository – central storage and sharing of patient records integrated with P1.
Results: compliance and cost optimization
By implementing these connectors, the diagnostic network achieved full compliance with Ministry of Health requirements. Patients gained quick access to their records via the Internet Patient Account, while facilities securely exchange documentation. Moreover, the client avoided future costs of system adjustments to changing P1 requirements.
- 100% compliance with P1 System requirements.
- Lower IT maintenance costs – no extra updates for regulatory changes.
- Faster patient record access – doctors can instantly review full medical history.
- Improved patient service – less paperwork, shorter wait times.
